IPL 2021 MI vs CSK Match 27 Preview

image: BCCI

This is the penultimate match of the season's first round. After the 28th match between SRH and RR, the first round of the season will be completed, where all the team have played with all the other 7 seven other teams once. from the 29th match, the team will be playing for the second time.

This is a big match for the Indian Premier League fans, as we can expect a thriller match and the aggression of some serious rivalry between the two teams. Both the teams have played 6 matches till now, in which CSK only lost a match to DC whereas MI lost 3 matches.

The 27th match of the IPL will be played in Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad and the match begins at 7:30 PM.

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai has able to win all the matches but the first match against the Delhi Capitals. In that match, the team has performed well but, the DC has performed better than them.

This team has able to break the winning streak of the Royal Challengers Bangalore by taking the wickets of the team's big-guns in the middle over.

All thanks to Sir Jadeja, he scored 37 runs from Harshal Patel's last over and took 3 wickets in the second innings.

Chennai needs to be careful by not giving any runs to Mumbai Indians in the death overs. If they are succeded in restricting them, Chennai is going to win.

The CSK batting big guns needs to flourish in the powerplay and try to set a maximum score and make MI harder to chase in the following innings, if they chose to bat first.

Chennai Super Kings Squad

Probable Playing 11

1 Faf du Plessis, 2 Ruturaj Gaikwad, 3 Moeen Ali, 4 Suresh Raina, 5 Ambati Rayudu, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 8 Sam Curran, 9 Shardul Thakur, 10 Deepak Chahar, 11 Lungi Ngidi

Mumbai Indians

In the 6 matches they have played, MI just won 3 matches. They won those matches because of very good bowling. Mumbai Indians have lost their touch in the batting as they are not scoring much compared to last year.

In the death over, the team is struggling as the death bowling specialist batsmen are failing to score runs and losing wickets in the process.

If this continues, it might hard even to secure 4th position on the points table. Its time for Mumbai Indians to change the squad and try to do experimenting with new players.

The CSK bowling and MI bowling is equal in all aspects, but the team whcih adapts to the situation and pressure will be the winner.

Quick wickets and tight feeling might save them from Chennai Super Kings in today's match.

Mumbai Indians Squad

Probable playing 11

1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Rohit Sharma (capt), 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Krunal Pandya, 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8 Jayant Yadav, 9 Rahul Chahar, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

IPL 2021 MI vs PBKS Match 17 report

image: BCCI

Miracles do happen in the Indian Premier League, exceptional bowling from the team after losing two consecutive matches is really amazing and a good comeback for the team.

After winning the toss, KL Rahul chose to bowl first and his plan to restrict the Mumbai Indians to a low score was worked. Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Shami helped the team by taking 3 wickets each and just by giving 21 runs in 4 overs.

Mumbai Indians lost their first wicket in Deepak Hooda's second over, Quinton de Kock was caught by Henriques in the mid-on. Then Ishan Kishan was caught by KL Rahul behind the wicket in the 7th over. By this time, the run rate is just 3.75, the Punjab bowlers and fielders are not giving any singles at this point.

Then with help of Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma made 79 runs in 56 balls. They both tried really hard to revive the match but the Punjab Kings bowlers are not giving any chance to the Mumbai Indians batsmen to score any runs.

At the beginning of the death over, MI lost Suryakumar Yadav's after he was caught by Chris Gayle at the short third man in Ravi Bishnoi's over. Rohit Sharma lost his wicket in the next over to Mohammed Shami and both Pandya brothers lost their wicket at the end.

Once again the mighty Mumbai Indians barely scored any runs in the death overs. This is the one reason the team has failed to secure a victory. At the end of the innings, Mumbai Indians scored 131 for a loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

With a moderate target to chase, Punjab Kings started their innings with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. They might have had a tough 1st over but, the table turned from the 2nd over.

Both the openers started to maintain a decent run rate till the fall of their first wicket in the match. In the Depak Chahar's 8th over, Mayank Agarwal was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. This is the only wicket Mumbai Indians managed to take in the second innings.

With the help of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul reached the target of 132 runs with 14 balls remaining.  As MI bowlers are desperate for a wicket and breakthrough, they have appealed for Chris Gayles to run out. But the TV umpire rejected it.

Overall, The Punjab Kings showed their dominance and exploited the Mumbai Indians weak batting lineup perfectly. If they continued like this they might be in the top 4 in the points table at the end.

Mumbai Indians need to change their batting lineup and experiment with a new team. Eventhough the same team won the cup last year, the very same team is not winning now as they should.

IPL 2021 PBKS vs MI Match 17 Preview

image: Hotstar

Today, Punjab Kings will be playing against the Mumbai Indians in M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai at 7: 30 PM.

Till now, both the teams have played two matches, in which Mumbai Indians won two and Punjab Kings won only a match. Right now, the MI is in the 4th position in the points table and PBKS is the last but one position.

If PBKS wins today's match, they will go to the fifth position and the MI's position is depending on the run rate they achieve in this match.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match and to the Delhi Capitals in the 13th match of this season. In the first match, they were unable to score runs in the death overs as Harshal Patel took 5 wickets, in which  4 wickets are in the last over alone.

In the 13th match against Delhi Capitals, the team lost the top-order wickets in the powerplay and unable to score the runs later on.  As the score is less, the Delhi Capitals openers scored the most runs and confirmed the victory to their team.

Mumbai Indians need to change their batting lineup or the batsmen need to score more runs in the middle and death overs. The openers need to make use of the powerplay to score more runs without losing the wickets at the early stage of the game.

MI batsmen need to be cautious with Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh in the powerplay and in the death overs.

The Mumbai Indians need more dot balls while bowling to Punjab Kings, as their openers are very dangerous and once they settled in the crease, they will make more runs in the over. MI bowlers need to avoid this situation to leak runs. They need as many wickets in the powerplay to stop them from scoring more.

Mumbai Indians Squad

Probable Playing 11

1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Rohit Sharma (capt), 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Ishan Kishan, 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Krunal Pandya, 8 Jayant Yadav, 9 Rahul Chahar, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings won their first against Rajasthan Royals out of four matches they played. They won that match because Sanju Samson hit the ball 10 yards short to the boundary. In the remaining matches, all of them are one-sided from the very beginning.

PBKS have good bowlers and batsmen but they are failing to take control of the match while playing. The team is basing on the miracles rather than their players. The opposition team are controlling them more than them.

I have one suggestion for the Punjab Kings, send Sharukh Khan ahead of Nicholas Pooran. Khan is the only consistent player in the lower middle order.

If they continued to play like this, the change of name, change of jersey, change of players will have no use. Punjab Kings need some miracle to happen to win this game.

Punjab Kings Squad

Probable playing 11

1 KL Rahul (capt & wk), 2 Mayank Agarwal, 3 Chris Gayle, 4 Deepak Hooda, 5 Nicholas Pooran, 6 Shahrukh Khan, 7 Moises Henriques, 8 Fabian Allen/Ravi Bishnoi, 9 Mohammed Shami, 10 M Ashwin, 11 Arshdeep Singh

IPL 2021 MI vs DC Match 13 report

image: BCCI

Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to bat first in the 13th match of the Indian Premier League. At first, they trembled after losing Quintin de Kock 2(4) in the Marcus Stoinis 3rd over, then Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma started to play a good knock.

They both made a wonderful partnership of 58 runs in 29 balls and the run rate is hovering at 8 runs per over. Then this partnership is broken by the Avesh Khan at the end of the 7th over by taking Suryakumar Yadav's 24(15)wicket.

Immediately after that, Mumbai Indians lost Rohit Sharma 44(30) and Hardik Pandya 0(1) in the Amith Mishra's 9th over. From then, Mumbai Indians batsmen switched to survival mode, just to stay long in the crease.

In the 11th over, the survival plan didn't work well in Lalit Yadav's bowling, Kurnal Pandya, got out, followed by Keiron Pollard in Amit Mishra's 12th over. The run rate is dropped to 7 after losing wickets regularly.

Jayant Yadav and Ishan Kishan tried to revive the team's score but their partnership of 39 runs in 39 balls didn't have much impact on Delhi Capitals.

In Amit Mishra 18th over, the ball hit the stumps after bouncing on Ishan Kishan's 26 (28) bat, this is the awkward dismissal in this IPL after Jhonny Bairstows hit-wicket. You can watch this wicket in the highlights below.

By the end of 20 overs, Mumbai Indians scored 137 after a loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

With a low score to chase, Delhi Capitals batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Shikar Shawan opened the second innings. Like Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals too had a starting problem, after losing Prithvi Shaw's wicket in the 2nd over to Jayant Yadav.

With help of Steven Smith, Shikar Dhawan, scored a wonderful partnership of 53 runs in 48 balls. At his point, Mumbai Indians started to tight the fielding and bowling. In the Pollard's 10th over, Steven Smith 33(29) got out after an LBW.

Then Lalit Yadav and Shikar Dhawan slowly started to score some runs in that tight bowling and fielding. In Rahul Chahar's 15th over, Shikar Dhawan 45(42) was caught by Kurnal Pandya at the long leg.

Then Rishab Pant 7(8) departed immediately after that, Shimron Hetmyer and Lalit Yadav scored all the runs and lead the team to victory. The last run is a reward from Keiron Pollard for his mistake.

With this victory, Delhi Capitals broke the Mumbai Indians winning streak in this season and took second place in the points table.

IPL 2021 DC vs MI Match 13 Preview

Image: BCCI

Till now both Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have played 3 matches till now in the tournament and won only two matches. Mumbai Indians won the two consecutive matches if they won this match, it would MI's hat-trick win in the league.

The match is going to start at 7:30 PM IST in M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians are unable to score more runs in the death overs, since the beginning of the tournament. This is because the lower middle-order high strike-rate batsmen are underperforming and losing way more wickets in the death overs.

This is the main reason behind losing the first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Eventhough, they scored less in the next two matches, their bowling squad rescued the team from losing the match with tight bowling and fielding.

If this continues in the tournament, Mumbai Indians might lose more matches this year than compared to last year. By playing carefully and scoring more runs in the death overs, the team might just afloat in this tournament till last.

Openers in the team need to make more runs in the powerplay to increase the run rate which decreases the pressure on the next batsman.

Coming to the bowling department, Mumbai Indians have the best players in the Indian Premier League but, they need to focus on taking wickets early on in the match to take control of the match.

Mumbai Indians Squad

Probable playing 11

1 Prithvi Shaw, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Steven Smith, 4 Rishabh Pant (capt, wk), 5 Marcus Stoinis, 6 Lalit Yadav, 7 Chris Woakes, 8 Kagiso Rabada, 9 R Ashwin, 10 Amit Mishra, 11 Avesh Khan

Delhi Capitals

In the last 3 matches they have played, Delhi Capitals lost to Rajasthan Royals till now and won against Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings. In these two matches they played well but, Rajasthan Royals, their batting lineup just collapsed.

Delhi capitals need to be careful with the Mumbai Indians bowling line up which is much stronger compared to the Punjab Kings.

Replacing Ajinkya Rahane with Steven Smith is a great idea but the team need to put him for good use with the bat. He can bat well but he needs some time to connect the ball. Once he settles, he is a more dangerous batsman.

Unless the team gets a good start with the bat in the powerplay, the team is in big trouble and might lose the match. They can do a fair bit with bowling but can't do wonders like Mumbai Indians did in those two matches.

In the last two games, the scores in Chennai are considerably more when compared to the previous matches and the team that bats first can score more and defend the other team to less score. The chasing team needs to do a good partnership in the powerplay and death to win this match.

Delhi Capitals Squad

Probable Playing 11

1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Rohit Sharma (capt), 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Ishan Kishan, 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Krunal Pandya, 8 Jayant Yadav, 9 Rahul Chahar, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

IPL 2021 MI vs SRH Match 9 report

image: BCCI

After Mumbai Indians won the toss they chose to bat first. This is the first time in this season of the Indian Premier League that the toss winning captain chose to bat first.

In the powerplay, Mumbai Indian's didn't lose any wickets to the Sunrsiers bowler and scored 53 runs by the end. Then in the third ball of the 6th over, MI captain Rohit Sharma 32(25) got out by giving a catch to Virat Singh in the deep midwicket.

R Sharma and Q de Kock gave Mumbai Indians a perfect start with a 55 runs partnership in 41 balls before got out in Vijay Shankar's over.

From then, no batsman in the Mumbai Indian's playing 11 really played well in the match.

With occasional boundaries and regular runs between the wickets, MI batsmen got out with less than 15 runs, except Kieron Pollard. He scored 35 runs in 22 balls with three sixes.

By the end of the Innings, Mumbai Indians has scored 150 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. As usual in the last three matches, the death over batsmen didn't perform well to their full extent.

With a decent target to chase Sunrisers Hyderabad opened their Innings with David Warner and Jhonny Bairstow. A batting line up problem that is worrying the Sunrisers for the past few years.

They both started slowly in the first two overs but started to gain speed from the third over. From then, the run rate started to climb and crossed the Mumbai Indians run rate before Jhonny Bairstow got out.

In the Kurnal Pandya's 8th over, Jhonny Bairstow 43 (22) got out after hitting his own stumps by mistake. Manish Pandey 2(7) followed him soon.

David Warner got run out after a greedy run when the ball is inside the 30-yard circle. Hardik Pandya single-handedly hit the stumps from a distance and made a contact with the stumps, which is really awesome to watch it slowly in the replay.

From then, every SRH batsmen returned back to the pavilion after getting out in the Mumbai Indians bowlers. As there are no strong middle-order batsmen, and missing Kane Williamson is the reason behind the underperformance.

The team tried to change the batting position of Jhonny Bairstow to middle order but, the top order is collapsing without him. Unless SRH does something fast to their batting lineup they will continue to lose matches because of poor batting.

IPL 2021 MI vs SRH Match 9 Preview

Image: BCCI

Today is the 9th match of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, which is between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

This the 5th match played in Chennai. Till now, Mumbai Indians lost a match to Royal Challengers Bangalore and won a match against Kolkata Knight Riders out of the two matches played in this stadium.

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost both the matches they have played on this ground, against the Kolkata Knight and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Right now, Srunrisers Hyderabad is now at the bottom of the points table and Mumbai Indians are at the third position on the table after Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings after the 8th match of the tournament.

The match starts at 7:30 PM IST and can watch it live on Star Sports and Disney Plus Hotstar with a subscription.

Mumbai Indians

In the last two matches, they have not scored any huge runs in the death overs, as their death over specialists Hardik Pandya and Keiron Pollard are failing to do so.

In the first match against RCB, they have lost six wickets and scored 31 runs in the last four overs. In the second match against KKR, MI lost 7 wickets and scored 38 runs.

Usually, the MI will score anywhere between 50 to 60 runs in the last four overs and they used to have a high run rate in the death overs.

Mumbai Indians should be played with caution in Rashid Khan's over, especially in the middle overs. And the bowlers have to be careful if the team, replaces someone with Kane Williamson, and Manish Pandey.

Mumbai Indians Squad

Probable Playing 11

1 Rohit Sharma (capt) 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Ishan Kishan, 5 Hardik Pandya, 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Krunal Pandya, 8 Rahul Chahar, 9 Marco Jansen/Jayant Yadav, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

Sunrisers Hyderabad

In the last two matches, the team lost due to the bad batting line-up. These problems are following by the team for the past two years. Unless they made subtle changes in the batting lineup, it's difficult for SRH to even enter knockouts.

Coming to the bowling, they have a few good players, Rashid Khan and Buhvaneshwar Kumar are the heart of their bowling squad as they give results without fail.

They need to pick a least two wickets of the Mumbai Indian's openers in the powerplay before they settle, to compete against the five-time champions.

And the Middle-order batsman has to be careful with Jasprit Bumrah in the death overs and with Trent boult in the powerplay. And the bowlers have to be careful in the death, even though MI is not in the form, don't know when the gun will fire back.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Squad

Probable Playing 11

1 David Warner (capt), 2. Jonny Bairstow (wk), 3 Manish Pandey, 4 Vijay Shankar, 5 Kedar Jadhav, 6 Rashid Khan, 7 Jason Holder, 8 Abdul Samad, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Shahbaz Nadeem, 11 T Natarajan

Toss

The winning team captain will choose to bowl first just like in the previous matches. Till now every toss winning captain chose to bowl first. Few won the matches, the others have lost them. We will see today if there is any change in the toss.

IPL 2021 KKR vs MI Match 5 report

image: BCCI

Like all the games that happened till now, the toss winning captain Eoin Morgan chose to bowl first in this match too.

Same as in the first match, Mumbai Indians lost their first wicket of Quinton de Kock 2 (6) in the second over of Varun Chakravarthy.

Then Suryakumar Yadav and brought some boundaries with him while coming from the dug-out. He and Rohit Sharma built a wonderful partnership of 76 runs in 56 balls with occasional boundaries and regular singles. At this point in the match, the run rate was pretty good and Mumbai Indians were looking at 180 runs by the end of the innings.

But this beautiful partnership was broke by the Shakib Al Hassan in the 11th over. Suryakumar Yadav 56 (36) gave a catch to Shubman Gill at the long-on.  Then Immediately after that, Ishan Kishan 1(3) got out at the beginning of Pat Cummins 12th over.

Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma struggled to play big shots after the early fall of wickets in the match. Eventhough, they punished the bowler for their bad balls to boundaries, their both partnership didn't last too long enough.

In Pat Cummin's 16th over, the ball hit the stumps and Rohit Sharma 43(32) got out, followed by Hardik Pandya 15 (17) in the Prasidh Krishna's 17th over.

Then on the massacre starts, one by one all the players in the Mumbai Indians team got out. As we have discussed in the match preview, the MI is not scoring any proper runs in the death overs.

In the 18th and 20th over, Andre Russell took 5 wickets, his best in the Indian Premier League. Keiron Pollard 5 (8), Kurnal Pandya 15 (9), Marco Jansen 0(1), Rahul Chahar 8(7) and Jasprit Bumrah 0(1).

By the end of the first Innings, the Mumbai Indians scored a total of 152 runs in the 20 overs and Kolkata Knight Riders need 153 runs to win the match.

Second Innings

With a 153 runs target, KKR batsmen Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill opened the Innings with a four. For a few overs, they both are really playing well and steady. They both are building a wonderful partnership of 72 runs in 54 balls.

In Rahul Chahar's 9th over, Shubman Gill 33 (24) gave a catch to Keiron Pollard in the long-off, then after a short cameo, Rahul Tripathi 5(5) departs after giving a catch to the wicket-keeper behind after the ball edging the bat.

From this point, the KKR started to get into trouble, as the middle order batsmen are unable to score the runs required. The MI players started to tight the fielding and even Rohit Sharma bowled an over to pressure the KKR.

Due to pressure, the KKR batsmen started to lose the wickets while trying to hit boundaries, this made the MI set more aggressive fielding to stop leaking singles. The plan worked and more wickets started to fall.

In the last over, KKR needs 15 runs in 5 balls. T Boult finished the over by taking two wickets and without giving any boundaries to the KKR batsmen.

KKR lost the match by 10 runs deficit to MI. The main reason for KKR's loss is the inconsistent middle order. In the first match, the top order stood in the crease to make runs in the early stage which helped them in the later stage even though the middle order failed in that match too.

KKR needs to reconsider their middle-order and death overs batting economy to win future matches in the league stage of the 14th edition of the IPL.

Here are the match higlights

IPL 2021 KKR vs MI Match 5

image: BCCI

Every team in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League has now played a match each. Out of the eight teams, four teams are on the top and the four teams are at the bottom of the points table.

These positions will be changed entirely in the due course of the tournament but, we can see which team has flaws and which team doesn't with this table.

In the forthcoming games, we will see how the teams will be able to rectify their flaws to be the table-toppers at the end of the league stage.

Today, the fifth match is going to be between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in M.A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Kolkata Knight Riders

In the first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, KKR managed to win the game by scoring big in the first innings and bowling really well in the second Innings.

The middle-order batsmen didn't perform well in the last match but, luckily the top order did stay strong in the crease for a while. Especially, Rahul Tripathi's innings is amazing he scored 53 runs out of 29 balls.

Coming to bowling, the team did choose to go first over with Harbajan Singh but didn't give another chance in the middle overs. With his experience, he can be able to pick wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders Squad

Probable Playing 11:

Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Shakib Al Hassan, Karun Nair, Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Pat Cummins, Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakraborty.

Mumbai Indians

In the first match, Mumbai Indians lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by 2 wickets. Mumbai Indians are unable to score runs in the death overs of the first innings of the match.

RCB bowler Harshal Patel picked a five-wicket haul in that match. Out of those five, four are in the final over of the match and he didn't give the Mumbai Indian's batsmen score extra runs in the final over.

What the Mumbai Indians should sort in this match?

The teams opening pair - Eventhough, Chris Lynn scored a good 49 runs in 35 balls, he failed to communicate with his partner at the other end of the 22 yards. This costed Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma's wicket in the early stages. They need to get Quinton de Kock back to the playing 11.

The death batting - The Mumbai Indians have the highest death overs run rate compared to other teams due to their famous players Hardik and Kieron Pollard. But they failed to deliver the runs for their team. This need to change very soon.

Bowling - Except for Rahul Chahar, everyone bowled well and able to pick the wickets but the team need Hardik Pandya as the all-rounder to play more efficiently.

Mumbai Indians Squad

Probable Playing 11 *: Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (wk), Anmolpreet Singh, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya. Kieron Pollard, Adam Milne, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Piyush Chawla/Rahul Chahar.

Toss:  The team who won the toss will be going to bowl first. They didn't want to break the trend which is happening in the IPL right now.

Mumbai Indians Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Match highlights IPL2021

Image: BCCI

After winning the toss after a while, RCB captain Virat Kohli opted to bowl to restrict the opposite team Mumbai Indians to the lowest score possible.

His plan worked in the name of Harshal Patel, in the 4 overs, he took four important wickets in the death overs and restricted the Mumbai Indians to 159/9.

With a decent target to chase, RCB started the second innings with new and inexperienced players. With small cameos, two top-order batsmen were back to the pavilion.

Then came Glenn Maxwell, with the help of Virat they both build a good partnership until Bumrah got him.

Then, single-handedly AB de Villiers scored maximum runs and got runout, the remaining run was scored by Harsshal Patel and M Siraj.

Here are the Highlights of the Match.

Important moments of MI vs RCB Match 1

image: BCCI, Rohit Sharma Hitting six in Match 1

Here are some important moments in the first match of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Harshal Patel's last over

First, let us talk about Harshal Patel, A right-arm seamer with a big outswinger from Gujarat who just took control of the death overs yesterday with his balls. In his last over, he took 4 wickets, including a run out in the last ball.

In the last four overs of Mumbai Indians innings, the team managed to score only 32 runs and lost 6 wickets. The usual Mumbai Indians used score no less than 60-70 runs in the death overs.

But this time the team found it hard even to rotate the strike. The death overs specialist batsman from the Mumbai Indians Keiron Pollard, Hardik Pandya find it hard to connect the balls. Their combined score is just 20 (19)

Coming to the last over, Mumbai Indians messed up it big time with no runs scored in this over. The star of this Innings is Harshal Patel with his superb bowling.

Rohit Sharma run out

At the end of the 4th over Rohit Sharma got out with a huge mixup from the striker Chris Lynn. After a good googly from the Y Chahal, the striker Chris Lynn made a call to the non-striker Rohit Sharma to run.

But in the midway, Lynn changed his decision and returned back as the ball didn't pass the inner circle.
In this process, Rohit Sharma got out 19(15). You can see the frustration of Rohit Sharma after he got out. Quinton de Kock missing from the game is really bad luck for Rohit Sharma.

Chris Lynn's Knock

After the bad call, Chris Lynn 49(35) really played a good knock with a little help from Suryakumar Yadav 31 (23). They both build a good partnership of 70 runs in 44 balls.

Chris hit 4x4's and 3x6's as an opener for Mumbai Indians before giving his wicket to Washington Sundar. By the end of the innings, Mumbai Indians scored 159/9 by messing the last over.

Marco Jansen 15th over

With Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar opened the second innings. In just a few balls, Kurnal Pandya got the first wicket of W Sundar 10 (16) and then after a short cameo Rajat Patidar got out 8(8). Then Glenn Maxwell came to the crease. They both build a good partnership of 52 runs in 42 balls.

Glenn is sending the ball to boundaries in all directions. There is a good cop and bad cop situation on the ground. Maxi is hitting and Kohli is rotating the strike.

Virat departed in the Bumrah 13th over for LBW. Then in the Marco Jansen 15th over, he departs Glenn Maxwell and the Shabaz Ahmed in the same over.

AB de Villier Superb Knock

Ab de Villiers came in the middle order than in the top order. That changed in the batting lineup is really thoughtful as the young batsmen in the top order of the RCB line failed drastically.

Once he came into the field, he started swinging the bat. Eventhough he cost a wicket for a rookie batsman, he did what has to be done at that moment.

The non-strikers didn't hold their wicket when the AB de Villiers is batting. Mumbai Indians targeted the non-strikers instead of AB. This plan of action really changed his perspective and knocked the ball hard.

In the last moment when he tried to get two runs, he got run out due to a silly mistake. Kurnal Pandya didn't waste any time throwing the ball to the wicket-keeper.

IPL 2021 Match 1 MI vs RCB Match 2nd innings report

Image: BCCI, AB deVilliers after getting run out.

After Mumbai Indians set a total of 159 runs on the scoreboard, Virat Kohli opened the second innings along with Washington Sundar. In 5th over, Washington Sundar 10 (16) was caught by Chris Lynn in the Kurnal Pandya's over.

Then the RCB rookie Patidar back to the pavilion after a short cameo in the Trent Boult's over. Then came the 'X' factor, Glenn Maxwell, he and Virat Kohli build a good partnership of 52 runs in 42 balls. I thought they both will complete the match in just 15 overs.

Then in the 13th over, Burmarh got Virat Kohli 33 (29) via an LBW. From then, the run rate went down for the two overs. After Kohli's wicket, Glenn Maxwell 39 (28) got out in the MI debut player Jansen.

Maxwell really played well in this innings like he has something to prove to himself. AB de Villers replaced Kohli and Shabaz Ahmed replaced Glenn Maxwell.

Shabaz got out for just 1 run in 2 balls in the same Jansen over where Maxwell got out. This wicket really placed the RCB in the tough spot, as no player is backing the AB de Villers.

Then Dan Christain replaced the Shabaz, he rotated the strikes and gave the AB d Villers the chance to hit the ball to score runs. He just stayed in the crease for 3 balls before J Bumrah got him.

Then, Kyle Jamieson got run out, he was called by the AB de Villiers to get the strike for the next ball. As the ball is near to the bowler Bumrah, he hit the wickets.

In the next over, AB de Villiers got run out in the process of taking two runs. Instead of running in a straight line, he ran a circle at the other end before coming to the crease, this made him lose time. Kurnal Panday passed the ball at the exact moment to Ishan Kishan.

Then, Harshal Patel and Mohammed siraj won the game by making the final run in the final ball. The match is taken to the last ball.

The Man of the Match goes to Harshal Patel for his debut 4 wicket haul against the Mumbai Indians in the first match of IPL.

IPL 2021 Match 1 MI vs RCB Match 1st innings Report

image: BCCI Harshal Patel after taking 4 wicket haul against MI

After winning the toss for a long time, Royal Challenger Bangalore team captain Virat Kohli opted to bowl first thinking that, he can restrict the opposition Team Mumbai Indians for a low score.

Rohit Sharma and Chris Lynn opened the innings for the Mumbai Indians. At the end of 3rd over, Chris Lynn got Rohit Sharma run out with a stupid call from him.

When Suryakumar Yadav and Chris Lynn build a good partnership of  70 runs in 44 balls. Suryakumar Yadav got out by a ball from Jameison, while pulling a shot, the ball edged and carried to the wicketkeeper.

Then the MI young star player came to the crease when he is playing well and building a partnership with Chris Lynn. Chris Lynn got out, at one run short to 50. Then Hardik Pandya came and left very soon after playing 10 balls.

After that, the players came and gone like it's a cameo party. The so-called death over destructive batsman also left early.  At the end of 20 overs, the score is just 159/9. No one has a chance to hit the ball far in the last five overs, thanks to RCB bowler Harshal Patel.

The last over was a colossal mess for the Mumbai Indians, they lost four wickets in the last over. They gave three wickets to the new recruit Harshal Patel and a run-out in the last ball.

Harshal proved himself by taking 4 wicket haul against the previous year champions. he didn't even flinch in the death overs. Especially, in the last over, he took three wickets which is really amazing for the young player.

If the Royal Challengers Bangalore won this match, it's because of Harshal Patel. If he didn't pick those wickets, the Mumbai Indians score would be around 190-200.

Few overseas players to miss their first match

image: ICC

A few of the South African players to miss their first match. As they have just arrived in Indian after completing the first two ODI matches against Pakistan. According to the BCCI guidelines, the players have to be quarantined for a certain period of time.

If the quarantine period is two weeks, the players are going to miss at least three to four matches in this period. Most of these players are very important for the teams to win matches on the league stage.

I think the players will be under quarantine just for a week, to see whether they have developed symptoms and test regularly for the virus.

The list of players includes

  • Quinton de Kock, wicketkeeper and the opener of Mumbai Indians,
  • Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, wicket-taking bowlers from Delhi Capitals,
  • David Miller, a middle-order batsman from Rajasthan Royals,
  • Lungi Ngidi, pacer from Chennai Super Kings.
With this list, Delhi Capitals have to lose the most. As the team already missing their star captain Shreyas Iyer due to shoulder injury, Axar Patel Tested Positive for the coronavirus and the two most important bowlers will be missing their first match.

Wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock can be easily replaceable by Ishan Kishan. But you can't replace the reliable opener batsman Quinton de Kock. He has played a few wonderful innings in that position.

I think Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan will open the first match followed by Chris Lynn/ Anmolpreet Singh.

For Rajasthan Royals, David Miller is an option for the squad but not the only choice for the top-middle-order. For Chennai Super Kings, Lungi Ngidi is also an option as they use their new recruits to fill the seamer position in the team.

IPL 2021 MI vs RCB Match 1

The first match of the Indian Premier League 2021 edition to start with Mumbai Indians and the Royal challengers Bangalore on the 9th of April.

On one side, Mumbai Indians, who are in hunger for their 6th IPL trophy, on the other hand, Royal Challenger Bangalore with legends and yet to win a cup.

The match starts at 7:30 PM IST in M A Chidambaram Stadium at Chennai. The match will be played behind a closed door without spectators due to coronavirus.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians are the dominating team in IPL. They won almost 70% of their matches in the IPL in the last two seasons. They have got a good batting lineup that can score even in death overs and good bowlers who can deliver wickets in the same death overs.

Here is the squad of Mumbai Indians for the 2021 IPL

Probable Playing 11*: Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (wk), Anmolpreet Singh, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya. Kieron Pollard, Adam Milne, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Piyush Chawla/Rahul Chahar.

Team News:

Royal Challengers Bangalore

One of the worlds top batsmen cum captain, a batsman cum wicket-keeper who can hit the ball in any direction, and the worlds best spinner is their team but they are unable to lift the IPL cup.

Devdutt Padikkal, a young talent, who recently showed his performance in the Vijay Hazare trophy secured a place in the team. But, due to coronavirus, he was quarantined in his house in Bengaluru.

The team didn't announce anything about his status in the first game. If he is still positive, he might not play in the first game. RCB needs Padikkal best performance in the powerplay to get a good score in the game.

Here is the Royal Challengers Bangalore Squad for IPL 2021:

Probable Playing 11*: Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, AB de Villers (wk), Washington Sundar, M Azharudeen, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kyle Jamieson

* Probable playing 11 is just a guess by my side after the careful analysis of the teams. These are not 100% garunteed.

Team News

  • Adam Zampa might not be available for the first match due to his marriage.
  • Devdutt Padikkal tested positive for coronavirus on march 22nd. He might not play the first match.
  • An Indian wicket-keeper will be behind the wickets for RCB. Not the Mr.360.
  • Daniel Sams tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the first match.

Numbers:

Virat Kohli is just 122 runs away to reach 6000 runs in IPL.

Toss: The team that won the toss might choose to Bowl first. The dew later on the field might help score runs.

Pitch report: Chennai will always help spin bowlers very well. The dew in the second innings of the game might slightly change the outcome. The average runs scored in this ground is 144 runs. I would be expecting at least 150 to 170 on the board for the first innings.

Weather: At the beginning of the match the temperature will be around 31 C and the temperature will be dropping to 29C with a partly cloudy sky. The winds will be blowing at 20 to 21 kph towards the city.
