IPL not in jeopardy due to coronavirus, says Sourav Ganguly

The thirteenth edition of the BCCI’s golden hen Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick-off on March 29. However, there is a global epidemic that has eclipsed all major sporting events of late, going by the name of Corona Virus (COVID 19).

As many as 3100 have been fatally reported, while many remain critically infected due to the deadly virus originated from Wuhan in China.

A major population of the world still remains under quarantine or observation. The virus recently made its way to India, through tourists visiting China, or by any other means.

Despite the international frenzy around the infection, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly remains positive about the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) taking place. And, that the tournament is not in any jeopardy.

“Nothing in India. Not even discussed it (Coronavirus),” Sourav told the reporters when asked about the IPL or South Africa ODI series being affected due to the virus.

“There is no threat as of now, and we are keeping a tab (on the situation).” IPL Governing Council chairman Brajesh Patel confirmed, according to PTI.

Many club football matches in Italy are scheduled to be played in front of empty stadiums to decrease the chances of transmission of the virus through the public gathering. The outbreak of the deadly coronavirus has also put the upcoming Tokyo Olympics under doubt.

England vs Afghanistan My dream 11 team

ABOUT THE MATCH

A big gap seems to be opening up between the current top-4 in ICC World Cup 2019 standings and the rest. England is a part of this top-4 and will be looking to try and maintain the momentum against Afghanistan.

There will be a number of teams that will be cheering for Afghanistan in this match. Teams like South Africa, Pakistan, and maybe even Bangladesh need the top-4 teams to slip up somewhere and create an opportunity for them.

Afghanistan has lost all of its four sides in the cricket world 2019. In fact, not only have they failed to win, but they have also failed to be competitive. This performance at the biggest stage in cricket is going to be hurting Afghanistan.

The match between the number one ranked side in the world, England, and the lowest ranked team in this world cup seems like a mismatch. A pitch that offered some help to the spinners and some possible injury concerns may make things a bit more interesting.

England vs Afghanistan is going to be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester on the 18th of June 2019.

MATCH PREVIEW

ENGLAND

The first thing that everyone is going to want to know in this match is whether Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan are fit to take the side against Afghanistan. There have been conflicting reports in the media with some outlets reporting Roy will miss his next two games and other reporting that he is going to be available to play against Afghanistan.

Morgan’s back spasms don’t seem to be as serious and he is most likely going to be available against Afghanistan.

Looking ahead at the ICC World Cup 2019, we think England is definitely going to rest Roy and maybe even Morgan. This means that James Vince is going to play and Moeen Ali could come back into the side also.

England is one of the strongest contenders for the Cricket World Cup 2019 title because of the depth it has in its squad. They are lucky to be playing against a relatively weak opponent and can afford to rest its first choice players.

The form of Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and the others are good enough for England to come into this match confident of a victory. Root has two centuries to his name already and is currently the fourth highest run-getter in the entire tournament.

England’s bowling attack is also performing very well and the express speed of Jofra Archer should be able to unsettle the Afghan batsmen. Archer and Mark Wood have been the two fastest bowlers in the entire tournament.

The pitch at Old Trafford helped the spinners in the previous match so the English batsmen will have to be careful about negotiating the Afghan spinners safely. At the same time, this is also a good opportunity for Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, and even Joe Root to get some more wickets to their name.

There is no cricketing reason or logic why England should lose this game.

England Squad:

Probable Playing 11: Jason Roy/James Vince, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Jos Buttler (wk), Eoin Morgan (c)/Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

AFGHANISTAN

The ICC World Cup 2019 has been a rude shock for the Afghanistan side. They have improved dramatically in the last few years but they have a very long way to go before they can be considered a consistent, world-class team in all conditions.

This learning curve is very similar to what a lot of other senior teams have gone through before them.

The biggest letdown for Afghanistan has been its batting. They have just not been able to put enough runs on the board to give themselves a chance to put the opposition under pressure.

No batsmen from Afghanistan has been able to score a century in the cricket world cup 2019. The highest score for their side has been 59. Only two batsmen have scored a fifty and not even a single batsman has reached 100 runs for the tournament in total.

It is just not possible to compete with the best teams with performances like these.

Against England, the Afghanistan team is going to be faced with one of the best bowling attacks in the tournament. They are also probably going to be faced with a lot of short-pitched bowling. If their batsmen can show some courage and play out the difficult overs then there will be plenty of scoring opportunities down the line.

Najibullah Zadran and Rahmat Shah appear to be the two batsmen that can maybe play the long inning. Mohammad Nabi also needs to show his batting class and step up for the side.

Among the bowling, Afghanistan must hope that the pitch is going to help the spinners. Picking three spinners would be the right way to go because England’s weakness against spin bowling is perhaps the only way they can win this match.

Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have had a very poor ICC World Cup 2019 so far. Even Mohammad Nabi has struggled apart from that spell against Sri Lanka.

A lot of things will suddenly need to start going right for Afghanistan to even have a chance of coming close to beating England.

Afghanistan Squad:

Probable Playing 11:Hazratullah Zazai, Noor Ali Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Asghar Afghan/Najibullah Zadran, Gulbadin Naib (c), Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Ali Khil (wk), Rashid Khan, Aftab Alam, Hamid Hassan

TOSS PREDICTION

England will want to bat second if it wins the toss because of all the rain around. Afghanistan may prefer to bat first and get a total on the board.

PITCH AND CONDITIONS

England vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at EMriates Old Trafford, Manchester. The weather has been dull and gloomy in Manchester for the last few weeks and the same is expected for this match.

We should be able to get a result in but some showers are expected to interrupt the match and cause stoppages.

The pitches were well protected and there was some spin for the bowlers in the match between India and Pakistan. A high scoring pitch with help for the spinners is what we expect in this game also.

DREAM11 PREDICTION

Our Dream11 team is filled with the maximum possible England players as can be expected. There is a threat of rain around and some injury concerns which could change the playing eleven.

WIcketkeeper: Jonny Bairstow is going to be opening the batting and is in good form as well. Jos Buttler is another exceptional player but he may not get enough batting time against a weak bowling attack like Afghanistan.

Batsmen: We have picked Joe Root, Najibullah Zadran, and Haratullah Zazai as our three batsmen. Root already has two centuries to his name and is in the race to be the highest run-scorer in this tournament. Hazratullah Zazi swings his bat around and can score some quick runs but picking him is a big gamble. Najibullah Zadran is also quite limited with this batting but the lack of clarity over the availability of Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan has left us no other options at this time.

All-rounders: We think Moeen Ali could get a chance in this game and this is why we have picked him in our Dream11 team. Ali, alongside Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes, means that we have all three all-rounders in the England side. Mohammad Nabi is the fourth player we have picked form this category which gives the maximum possible all-rounders.

Bowlers: Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, and Rashid Khan are perhaps the three bowlers best equipped to take wickets in Manchester. All three of these bowlers will benefit from the large square boundaries and the two spinners will also the like kind of surface that has been prepared.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow as the captain and vice-captain of our Dream11 team for England vs Afghanistan.

MATCH PREDICTION

There is nothing that suggests that Afghanistan is going to be able to win this match. That does not mean that it is impossible but just that we cannot recommend betting on it happening. Everything is in England’s favor and we believe that they have a 99% chance of winning this game. If you are the kinds that like to take risks on miracles then go ahead and bet on Afghanistan. We recommend sticking with the home team or keeping your money in your pocket.

WEST INDIES vs BANGLADESH My Dream 11 Team

WEST INDIES vs BANGLADESH My Dream 11 Team

ABOUT THE MATCH

We are almost midway in the ongoing Cricket World Cup, and things are just about beginning to take shape beautifully. Although the scheduling of tournament has attracted plenty of flak over the past week with most of the matches being washed out, things are bound to get interesting going forward.

A win for South Africa over Afghanistan has not only pushed the latter to the brink of elimination but has also still kept the Proteas in the hunt for a playoff spot. In an earlier game, England thrashed West Indies to strengthen their position in the top-four whereas Bangladesh had to stay content in splitting points with Sri Lanka.

Lying in the bottom half of the table, the Caribbean team and the Asian Tigers will have an opportunity to get back into the race for the playoffs. While the winner would possibly move into the top-half, things will get rather tricky for the one ending up on the wrong side of the result.

The match between the two sides will be played on 17th June at The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton. Each game is of vital importance in this tournament, and with both teams struggling to get points under their belt, it's going to be an exciting contest.

MATCH PREVIEW

WEST INDIES

West Indies are currently placed at the sixth spot in the points table with one win, and two losses in the four games played so far. They still have six games to go and would ideally need to win at least four of those to have a reasonable probability of progressing to the next round.

While most of their challenging games are already over, winning four out of six games is never an easy prospect, especially when one of those games is against India.

Considering that, the importance of their upcoming match cannot be understated. Even though the results haven't favored them, Windies wouldn't be too discontent with the position they're in.

They did well against Australia before losing out in the final few overs and were brilliant against Pakistan in the opening fixture. Also, they were in an excellent position before rain washed out their match against the Proteas.

Up until now in the tournament, it's their bowling which has been responsible for their decent show so far. Barring a superb performance in the warm-up fixture, against the Kiwis, their batting has underperformed on the whole with batsmen perishing in the quest of getting too many runs too quickly.

Arguably their most reliable batsmen, Shai Hope, has either been too slow to get going or has returned to the pavilion prematurely which has also reflected in the scorecards they've posted. More often than not, they've struggled to last for the full quota of fifty overs which has hurt them badly.

Also, the selection of Carlos Brathwaite over Kemar Roach has attracted a lot of criticism for their skipper Jason Holder. Keeping Brathwaite has arguably rendered their side a little weak on bowling which was also apparent in their match against the Aussies where they reduced them to 79 for five only to chase a tall total later.

All in all, West Indies have raised the expectations from them in this Cricket World Cup with the kind of performances they've posted. They've been excellent at times, but the failure to last throughout hundred overs has hurt them. If they can keep their focus alive and be consistent with their approach, they will be a force to deal with in the upcoming fixture.

West Indies squad

Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope(w), Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder(c), Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Shannon Gabriel, Ashley Nurse, Darren Bravo, Fabian Allen, Kemar Roach

playing 11

BANGLADESH

Bangladesh had a remarkable start to their campaign in this tournament, beating South Africa quite comfortably, but haven't been able to produce similar kind of performance ever since. They are currently placed at the seventh place in the points table with just one win in four matches and are desperate for another win to keep their run on the track.

Coming into the tournament, they made a few critical changes to their lineup with Shakib Al Hasan coming in at number three is the most prominent one. The decision to promote him has also been the one which has reaped the most benefit for the side. In the three matches he has played, he has scored 260 runs at an average of over 86 and a noteworthy strike-rate.

Apart from Shakib Al Hasan, however, we haven't seen anyone from Bangladesh go on and play big innings. There have been instances of individual brilliance from Mahumudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Soumya Sarkar, but the over-reliance on Shakib Al Hasan has well and truly been apparent.

Their spinners played a key role in their only win over in the tournament so far, but it would be interesting to see how they fare against the power-packed Windies batting lineup consisting of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell who are known to handle spin well. Also, barring Mustafizur Rahman, they have a quick-bowling unit which looks rather unidimensional.

Bangladesh defeated West Indies in the final of tri-series which happened right before this ICC event started which should be a big confidence booster for them. Having said that, that West Indies unit was a second string side that did not feature the likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Evin Lewis.

Just a day ago, Mushfiqur Rahim suffered an injury during practice and was rushed off the field. His participation in the next fixture is still under the clouds, and his absence could well be a decisive factor. All in all, Bangladesh have an excellent unit which has surely punched above its weight under the leadership of Mashrafe Mortaza.

Mortaza, however, has himself been out of form and would need a colossal effort from his side going forward in the tournament, especially if Mushfiqur Rahim is ruled out of next as well as the other upcoming fixtures.

Bangladesh Squad

Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mehidy Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza(c), Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Liton Das, Sabbir Rahman, Abu Jayed

Playing 11

Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Mossadek Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Mustafizur Rahman

DREAM11 PREDICTION

Check out the Dream11 Fantasy Lineup of the 23rd World Cup match, between West Indies and Bangladesh below:

MATCH PREDICTION

While both the sides have shown glimpses of individual brilliance in the tournament thus far, they both are dealing with their own set of problems.

Batting out fifty overs has been a significant problem for the Windies while Bangladesh appears to be a little too over-reliant on Shakib Al Hasan.

Tamim Iqbal and Mashrafe Mortaza have mainly looked out of color, and the injury to Mushfiqur Rahim has only added to their concerns.

We might see West Indies bringing in Kemar Roach in place of Carlos Brathwaite, and while that would certainly bolster their bowling attack, that would also make their batting look a little more fragile.

Comparing the two teams on paper, there's hardly anything to separate the two sides. Considering the batting friendly surfaces, short boundaries, and a balanced bowling attack, the Caribbean side appear to be better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.

India Vs Pakistan My Dream 11

India Vs Pakistan My Dream 11

ABOUT THE MATCH

The cricket world cup is the biggest event of the sport and the ICC World Cup 2019 edition has provided some excellent action on the field (when the rain has allowed it to). A number of highly awaited contests have been witnessed but now it is time for the biggest one of them all: India vs Pakistan World Cup 2019.

There is a history of war, conflict, and political differences between the two countries that elevate this contest to something beyond just another cricket match. Supporters from each side are happy to lose the world cup if they can just win this one match.

Traditionally, a lot of cricket has been played between the two sides but all bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan has been at a standstill since 2008 and they have only played each other in multi-nation events.

Pakistan has never won a match against India in the World Cup, a record that it would desperately want to correct. The last time these two teams met in England was the Champions Trophy final 2017 which Pakistan won.

Can they finally get over the line against India?

Oh, and there is a very good chance of rain causing interruptions to the match which is going to add to the intrigue around the contest as well.

MATCH PREVIEW

INDIA

India is unbeaten in the ICC World Cup 2019 as of now and has looked one of the best teams in the entire tournament. Confident wins against South Africa and Australia were followed by a rained-out encounter against New Zealand.

As good a start as they have had to their campaign, India goes into this match with a few major concerns. Shikhar Dhawan fractured his finger during the match against Australia and is going to be unavailable for this match.

He is a part of India’s famed top-3 and also scored a century in the previous game. His absence will mean that India has to get another player into the side and make some changes to its batting order also.

Lokesh Rahul traveled to England as the reserve opening batsman but cemented his place at number 4 in the warm-ups. He is now going to have to make another adjustment and come back to open the batting. It helps the Lokesh Rahul is in good form but this is going to be a massive test for him.

India now has to decide what to do about their number 4 slot. We think that they are going to include Vijay Shankar into the side since he did pretty well in New Zealand at that position. Shankar is also a brilliant fielder giving him the edge.

The other option that India has is to move up Dhoni and Jadhav one place and add Dinesh Karthik to the lower order.

India has so far played Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav backed up by Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav. We think they might consider playing Mohammad Shami in place of Kuldeep Yadav if the conditions remain overcast.

All in all, India has the bench strength to be able to adapt to the loss of Dhawan but doing so in a pressure match against Pakistan could really test their resolve.

India Squad: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), Lokesh Rahul, MS Dhoni(w), Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Vijay Shankar, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami

Probable Playing 11: Lokesh Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), Vijay Shankar/Rishab Pant, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami/Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah

PAKISTAN

One win from four matches has left Pakistan in a tough spot. They lost their match against the West Indies and their match against Sri Lanka was rained out as well. They must win at least four out of their remaining five matches in the ICC World Cup 2019 if they want to be sure of qualifying for the Cricket World Cup 2019 semi-finals.

To say that Pakistan is an unpredictable side is a cliché but it is well deserved. They collapsed in a heap against the West Indies and then scored close to 350 against England after which they once again failed to chase 307 against Australia. Fakhar Zaman, Imam ul Haq, and Babar Azam are a dangerous top-3.

Fakhar Zaman may not be very consistent but he will have good memories of taking apart India’s attack in the Champions Trophy final. Imam and Babar are much more consistent and must score runs if Pakistan has to have a chance.

Babar Azam is rated as one of the best ODI players in the world and this is the time to prove it.

Mohammad Hafeez is in excellent rhythm and is playing his best cricket at number 4. He has the power game to be able to accelerate when needed and is also very good against the spinners.

After these four the batting starts to become shaky. Sarfaraz Ahmed at 5 is a bit too high, Shoaib Malik is struggling for form and may be replaced by Haris Sohail while Asif Ali seems too one dimensional to be successful at this level of the game.

Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali can slog for a bit but they cannot be trusted to hang around against a quality bowling attack.

Pakistan also has to decide on its team combination for this match. They dropped Shadab Khan in the previous match and included Shaheen Afridi but that meant they had no quality spinner in the side. Mohammad Amir is back in wicket-taking form and he will be the biggest threat in this match.

His opening spell against the Indian top-order is going to determine which way the match goes.

If Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, and the rest can back him up then Pakistan definitely has the bowling to win.

Pakistan Squad: Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi,Haris Sohail, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Hasnain

Probable Playing 11:Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed (c/wk), Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir

TOSS PREDICTION

The team winning the toss is going to want to bat second. There is a lot of rain that is going to be predicted and that will make conditions favorable for the fast bowlers. If the match is completed then DLS tends to favor the side batting second as well. Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

 PITCH AND CONDITIONS

India vs Pakistan ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. Everyone is going to have one eye in the sky because rain has already played havoc with the tournament.

The weather forecast is not good. There is a lot of rain expected to fall on match day. The current forecast suggests a 50% chance of rain throughout the day. We have to hope for a miracle otherwise the most awaited match of the tournament may be a washout.

 DREAM11 PREDICTION

The Dream 11 team for India vs Pakistan is being made hoping we get a result in. The weather has been terrible in Manchester and there is a very real possibility of a washout. Even if we do get a match, it is likely to be shortened in nature.

Wicketkeeper: There are two options here, MS Dhoni and Sarfaraz Ahmed. Both are good options because they play a crucial role in the middle order. We think that picking MS Dhoni is a better option in this match since he may move up a batting position.

Batsmen: Both the teams are reliant on their top-order for runs. We have picked Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, and Vijay Shankar in our side. Imam ul Haq was another compelling option but he proved to be a bit too expensive to fit in the team. Vijay Shankar's place, is, of course, assuming that he is picked in the final eleven. We can substitute Lokesh Rahul or even Dinesh Karthik in the side if Shankar is not in the team.

All-rounders: Mohammad Hafeez and Hardik Pandya are two very important options in this category. We think it is a must to have both these players in the side because of their high point-scoring potential. Hafeez is Pakistan's most valuable batsman in the middle and bowls regularly while Hardik Pandya is India's power hitter and fourth bowler.

Bowlers: Pakistan's fast bowling riches are plenty and we have decided to include Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz into our side. Mohammad Amir is in good form and also has a good record against India. If Pakistan bowls first, then he could be unplayable under overcast conditions.

Wahab Riaz has been bowling with genuine pace and is always a threat. The third bowler that we have picked is Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. He is at his best when the ball is swinging and that is what we think will happen in Manchester. Batsmen also tend to attack him and prefer to be more cautious against Jasprit Bumrah.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Virat Kohli as captain and Mohammad Amit as the vice-captain for this match.

South Africa Vs Afghanistan My dream 11

South Africa Vs Afghanistan My dream 11

ABOUT THE MATCH

South Africa has just five matches remaining in the ICC World Cup 2019 and it has yet to win its first match. That is not something that many people would have expected. Three losses from its first three games were followed by a rained-out fixture against the West Indies.

South Africa now plays against Afghanistan, a match where it could finally pick up its first win, weather permitting of course.

Afghanistan has played three matches and lost all three. There have been sparks of brilliance in Afghanistan’s Cricket World Cup 2019 campaign but nothing that has brought it close to a victory. Some of the big players in the Afghanistan team need to start making their presence felt, otherwise, they are going to struggle to win a single game in this tournament.

The weather has been horrible over the last week and we have already had four matches rained out. The forecast in Cardiff for this match is a bit better but we are likely to get a rain delay here as well.

South Africa vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on the 15th of June 2019.

MATCH PREVIEW

SOUTH AFRICA

It will be ten days since South Africa would have played its last world cup 2019 match when it takes the field against Afghanistan. Only 7.3 overs were possible in the match against West Indies but South Africa lost two wickets in that short period as well.

The signs are not good for South Africa.

They need to win all five of their matches and hope for some luck to be able to qualify for the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-finals. They have two potential ‘easy’ games against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka which they must win and try to improve their net run-rate a bit as well.

There are some important questions that South Africa needs to answer ahead of this match.

The first one is about their batting order. Faf du Plessis has been batting at 3 and having a lot of success but he is sliding down the order to accommodate Aiden Markram, who is not in good form.

The second is about team selection. Does Hashim Amla deserve another run after a series of poor scores? Does JP Duminy deserve another chance in the middle? Should South Africa abandon its tactic of playing two spinners altogether?

Most importantly, South Africa needs to get its mindset right. On a player to the player basis, there is no contest between South Africa and Afghanistan. Batsmen like Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, and Hashim Amla are miles ahead of where Afghanistan is.

Similarly, Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris, Imran Tahir, and Beuran Hendricks are far superior to anything the Afghans can muster together.

South Africa would be desperately hoping that its big players can finally shed off the dazed look they have been carrying around in the world cup so far and start getting some wins under their belt. Faf du Plessis is our pick for the player to watch out for in this match. He is in good form and likes to lead from the front.

South Africa Squad Quinton de Kock (wk), Faf du Plessis (c), Hashim Amla, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Beuran Hendricks, Lungi Ngidi, Dwaine Pretorius, Tabraiz Shamsi, Jean-Paul Duminy

AFGHANISTAN

No one expected Afghanistan to win the ICC World Cup 2019 or even make the semi-finals for that matter. A lot of people did expect Afghanistan to make life tough for the other teams and maybe even pick up a win somewhere along the line.

This match against South Africa is as good an opportunity as any for Afghanistan to make its mark on the world cup.

Afghanistan has a very good spin bowling attack and they can exploit some of the weaknesses in the South African camp. Bowlers like Mujeeb, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi can all be very difficult to handle when in form.

We think that Afghanistan needs to re-think its strategy a little, though. It looks like Afghanistan is happy to start Mujeeb with the new ball, attack with Mohammad Nabi in the middle overs, and then unleash Rashid Khan in the end overs.

Teams around the world have grown to expect this line of attack now. Rashid Khan is being wasted by being held back so late into the game and Mujeeb has struggled to make an impact with the new ball. Changing things up a little is not going to harm Afghanistan.

Its fast-bowling resources are also slim. Hamid Hassan is giving it his all but he is not the bowler he once was. Aftab Alam is energetic without being too threatening. Afghanistan could struggle to stop the strong South African batting from scoring a mountain of runs.

Even more troubling has been the Afghan batting performance. Not even a single batsman from Afghanistan has shown the temperament needed to succeed at this level. Maybe Rahmat Shah is the closes Afghanistan has to a world-class batsman but he cannot win matches on his own.

Hazratullah is happy slogging at the beginning of the inning while Mohammad Nabi does not seem to be able to adapt his game to the 50 over format. Every single batsman in the Afghanistan lineup is going to have to play better than what we have seen in this tournament if Afghanistan is to have any hope of competing with the South Africans.

TOSS PREDICTION

The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat second. The rain around is going to add moisture to the surface and make batting difficult for the first hour.

PITCH AND CONDITIONS

South Africa vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2019is going to be played at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. The weather has been a real problem in the World Cup so far. Four matches have been rained out and the forecast is not too encouraging either.

There is some rain expected on the morning of the match with a clear day to look forward to later on. This means we could have a delayed start and some reduction in overs.

Cardiff has offered some help to the fast bowlers but overall, the wicket has been good for the batsmen.

DREAM11 PREDICTION

The unending rain seems to be finally ready to take a break and allow us to watch some cricket. Dream11 team for South Africa vs Afghanistan is made assuming we will get a full game.

The strategy for this match is pretty simple: South Africa has to win, preferably with a big margin. We think they are going to be able to do it and this is why we are packing our side with the maximum possible South Africans.

Wicketkeeper: Quinton de Kock is the obvious choice in this category. He is in brilliant form, opens the batting, and is pretty good behind the stumps as well. He is going to be attacked by spin at the start of the inning and that is possibly where he will be tested.

Batsmen: The South African top-order is not in the best form but players like Hashim Amla and Aiden Markram should not be counted out. They have a very good chance of scoring against a weak Afghanistan bowling attack and this is why we have picked them in the side. Faf du Plessis is the other batsman we have picked, which gives all the South African top-order.

All-rounders: Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, and Chris Morris are the three players we have selected for our team. Nabi is a leading spinner for Afghanistan while Naib is pretty handy with both bat and ball. Chris Morris is going to be hunting down the wickets and be expected to score runs down the order if hets the opportunity.

Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, Beuran Hendricks, and Nujeeb Ur Rahman are the four bowlers to have been included in the side. Our idea is to have as many wicket-taking options as possible. For South Africa, this means, the fast bowlers and for Afghanistan, this means their spinners. We believe we have most of the bases covered with this selection.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have decided to have Kagiso Rabada as captain and Hashim Amla as our vice-captain for this match.
